Dr. Jiuxing Xing

Birth Date:
Address:
Tel: Fax: Email:

Research interests:
Shelf sea dynamics and modelling; internal tides and waves; turbulence and mixing; sediment transport.

Education:
1982: BSc (Meteorology, Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, Nanjing).
1988: MSc (Meteorology, Beijing, the Chinese Meteorological Academy of Science).
1992: PhD (Physical Oceanography, University of Reading).

Employment:
1982-1988: Research assistant at Chinese Meteorological Academy of Science, Beijing.
1992-present: From research assistant (1992, band 6) to senior research scientist (1998, Band 4) at Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (now called National Oceanography Centre, Liverpool), England.
2012-Present: Graduate School at Shenzhen

Research Projects:
National capability projects: (funded directly by NERC):
Ocean 2025: Theme 3.1 Global impacts of shelf seas. Theme 3.2 Horizontal patchiness in vertical mixing in stratified shelf seas. Theme 9.1 Assessing and improving the accuracy of shelf sea models. New generation numerical models (unstructured-grid, non-hydrostatic models).

Scientific and management skills:
Prof. Xing have a combination of strong modelling skill, including unstructured-grid modelling, and deep knowledge and understanding of shelf sea physical processes from small-scale motions, e.g., turbulence and internal waves with non-hydrostatic dynamics, to large-scale motions, e.g., circulations, tides and internal tides, freshwater plumes.
Prof. Xing is a line manager for three senior scientists. Also responsible for a PhD student and post-doc researcher at the moment.
