Achievement

Professor John Huthnance, deputy director of NERC Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (former name of National Ocean Center of England), has been studying ocean dynamics for 35 years. His outstanding contribution to understanding process in continental shelf and slope and interaction between wave and topography has been especially acknowledged. He served as PI or co-PI for many projects, including NERC North Sea Project, POL project: Dynamics of Shelf and Slope Seas, Ocean-Shelf Interactions, POL Coastal Processes cost centre and Coastal Seas program, and PROFILE project, etc. Especially, the latter one focus on influence of fresh water to the coast sea. He has 35 year experience in research of ocean dynamics, including many types of scientific studies in coast sea, continental shelf and slope, deep sea. He has obtained fruitful achievements in underwater turbulence, sediment transport, sand waves, circulation on continental shelf, interaction between ocean and continent, wind-driven oceanic circulation, tides, waves, water quality, etc, especially the dynamics of continental shelf, impact of topography to waves and exchanging and coupling between ocean and coast seas.
