Two new university-level research centers founded at GSST

Approved by Tsinghua University Council, two new university-level research centers, Center for Ocean Technologies and Center for Hong Kong and Macao Research, are founded at the Graduate School at Shenzhen.

The Center for Ocean Technologies (COT) is jointly established by Graduate School at Shenzhen, Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanology and Center for Earth System Science in December 2011. Based in Shenzhen, it will promote interdisciplinary collaborations among different departments to develop ocean science and technology in Tsinghua and meet the needs of national and regional governments. Its research activities in near future will focus on the development of marine observation / detection technology, including underwater sensor technology and equipments, submarine communications and networking technology, data management, simulation and early warning of the marine environment, seafloor observatory network and underwater mobile observation platform.

Initiated by Graduate School at Shenzhen and the Faculty of Law, the Center for Hong Kong and Macao Research, Tsinghua University, was established in January, 2012. Making full use of its academic and social resources at home and abroad, it will facilitate in-depth cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong and Macao, to achieve academic excellence in Hong Kong and Macao studies, and to become the country’s high-level expert hub, information database and think tank for the study of Hong Kong, Macao and the special economic zone development.
